Differences between civil law and criminal law
Criminal law and civil law are two very separate and extensive entities of the legal system. Both entities have different approaches to deal with legal issues. Criminal law vs civil law is explained here in an easy to understand format.
What is civil law?
A civil law case usually consists of 2 parties in a lawsuit looking for an answer to some kind of disagreement. For example, if an individual is hurt as a result of the carelessness on someone else’s part, then he/she is entitled to receive some kind of compensation for all the costs incurred, as in the case of an automobile accident. It can also be lawsuit where the parties are having a disagreement over a contract or deed such as between a client and a contractor. It could be either the individual filing a lawsuit against the contractor for not completing the entrusted job or it could be the other way round where the contractor sues the individual for not meeting the payments owed to him even after completing the work. The judge hears the case and will then come to a decision requiring one party to reimburse the other for the costs that he or she had to suffer. Civil law is an extensive portion of the law that encompasses property ownership and renter connections, recruitment connections, company financial transactions and even child custody and family member connection cases. However, not all cases involve penalties as some may have come about due to misunderstanding of the nuances of law.

Criminal law is totally different from civil law where one individual is charged with the act of crime or blatantly breaching the law. This individual is prosecuted by the district attorney representing the state. What makes criminal law distinctly different from civil law is that here it is the government who files the case. The district attorney is required to verify how the individual executed the crime and the opposition is also allowed to defend their case. If the presiding judge or the jury finds that the individual is in the wrong, he will be awarded appropriate punishment which may be a fine or even imprisonment.
